2014 CHRIS AUSTIN SONGWRITING CONTEST FINALIST

I am beyond pleased to announce that I am one of the finalists in the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest for 2014 that will be held at the MerleFest music festival in Wilkesboro, NC next week (April 24-27). I have attended MerleFest with my family since 2002, and it is no exaggeration to say that being selected as a Chris Austin finalist is a dream come true. The contest was started in honor and memory of Chris Austin, a writer and musician who was killed in a 1991 plane crash, along with other members of Reba McEntire's band. It has become one of the best showcases of independent songwriting talent in the US. Past winners and finalists have included heroes of mine like Gillian Welch, as well as some of my songwriting friends and mentors like Louisa Branscomb and Brink Brinkman. My new song "Nobody Knows My Name" was selected as one of the top 3 entries in the General category this year. I will be attending MerleFest and performing on Friday, April 25th on the Chris Austin stage in the final judging round. I will also have new music available for purchase at the festival: a special preview of my upcoming 3rd album. You can purchase tickets and find out more about MerleFest at the festival website.

BLUEBIRD CAFE SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

Here is a video of some of the moments from the most recent songwriter round I hosted at The Bluebird Cafe in January. I was pleased to have my friends Ashley Lewis, Ty Brando, and Neilson Hubbard join me and share their great music. Thanks also to Josh Buchholtz for shooting the video footage.

SELECTED AS A FINALIST FOR 2013 TELLURIDE TROUBADOUR CONTEST

I was thrilled and honored to be one of the 10 finalists selected for the 2013 Telluride Troubadour Contest at the 40th Telluride Bluegrass Festival in June. There were almost 500 entries, and I count myself fortunate and blessed to be one of the 10 singer-songwriters selected to compete and perform at the festival. It was my first time in Telluride, and the music and the Colorado mountains were beatiful and inspiring. I hope that I'll get the chance to travel back to Telluride sometime soon. Here is a brief "highlight reel" of some of my performances.

HOUSE CONCERT IN PETERSBURG, IN

I had a nice concert and visit at the home of Jim and Lynna Woolsey back in April. They are wonderful people as well as talented musicians and writers themselves. We had a fun jam until about midnight or later after the concert, and I was honored to be invited to sing with them at their church the following morning.

NEW VIDEO FROM 2012 NORTHEASTERN TOUR

I had an amazing and blessed trip to the Northeast during the month of November for my 2012 Northeastern US tour. The tour included house concerts in Schuyler Lake, NY for Bruce and Sue Andrews, and Wrightsville, PA for Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bobby. I am so grateful to these wonderful folks for hosting me as well as other independent touring musicians that depend on playing house concerts for their musical livelihoods. If you're into hosting events for family and folks around your community, house concerts are an awesome thing to do. I'll be starting to book shows around the US and Canada for 2013, so if you would like to host a house concert, please email me.

"Sweet as magnolia blossoms, solid as hickory with a touch of bitter sweet, Clint Alphin's music brings you down the road to your southern roots, even if you'd never been." — Sue and Bruce Andrews "Cot and Crackers" House Concert hosts

FAREWELL TO FAI MEMPHIS

It is with a bittersweet heart that I come back to Nashville from the International Folk Alliance conference in Memphis, TN. 2012 is the last year that the conference will be held in Memphis, and it was certainly a great time of playing music that did not disappoint. I always get to hear and meet so many great artists on top of getting to perform, and this year was no exception. Some of the many great artists that provided highlights for me were my friends Robby Hecht, Greg Humphreys, and Shannon Wurst, as well as fellow Nashville musicians Brian Ashley Jones and Andy Gullahorn. Topping the great new discoveries for me were fantastic Austin swing band Ghosts Along the Brazos, and San Francisco, CA chanteuses Lia Rose and Kelly McFarling. I'm already eagerly awaiting a trip to Toronto, Canada for FAI 2013!
